Havildar killed, four injured in Manipur encounter Thursday, February 3 2005 13:07 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

An Assam Rifles havildar was killed and four jawans were injured in an encounter between insurgents and para military forces in interior parts of Manipur, official sources said today (Feb 03, 2005).
Armed insurgents attacked the Assam Rifles personnel of 37th battalion when they were patrolling the border town of Moreh, 120 kms from Imphal, in Chandel district late last night (Feb 02, 2005), the sources said.
The security personnel also returned the fire and in the heavy exchange of fire that lasted several hours, a havildar identified only as Negi was killed on the spot and four jawans received bullet injuries.
The identity of the insurgents was not yet known although cadres of Manipur People's Liberation Front (MPLF), were active in the area, the sources said.
Security forces were carrying out search operation in the area, the sources said.
Meanwhile, a report from interior Churachandpur district said that prohibitory orders under section 144 CRPC (Central Reserve Police Force) have been imposed from 09:00 hrs (IST) to 16:00 hrs (IST) in Churachandpur town till further orders following reports of infiltration of armed ultras.
