One does not step into same river twice, says Sting Thursday, February 3 2005 19:10 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Bangalore:
An Indophile and the most idolised pop star, Sting will enthrall the Bangalore audience tomorrow (Feb 4, 2005).
The musical journey of this 52 year-old Englishman, Gordon Sumner, from playing for bass for the local bands to becoming a pop icon and versatile song writer is "still continuing", he told reporters on the eve of his performance.
"Rather than being a mere popular artist, I want to explore the other realms of music", Sting said.
The pop icon who loves Indian music said, "I am aware of its rhythmic complexity and rich history enough to appreciate it".
When asked whether he would join his earlier band "Police", he said "one does not step into the same river twice, I have moved on".
To a question whether his music had a spiritual influence, Sting said, "Music is the place where I am God, music cannot be categorised".
An avid yoga freak, Sting has been visiting India since the eighties and is fascinated by the Indian culture, history, spiritualism and above all the people. "They (people) are very engaging, sweet and clever", he said.
"I would like to visit Varanasi before I leave India", he said.
