42 killed, 8 injured as train hits tractor-trolley Thursday, February 3 2005 19:56 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

At least 42 persons, including ten children, were killed and eight injured when Nagpur-bound Ramtek local train collided with a tractor-trolley at an unmanned crossing between Kanhan and Dongri Khurd near Kanhan, about 30 kms near Nagpur today (Feb 3, 2005), police said.
The mishap occurred at around 16:30 hrs (IST) in Nagpur division of South East Central Railway. The victims, who were occupants of the tractor-trolley, were part of a marriage party, they added.
None of the railway passengers were hurt, the sources said.
Nagpur rural police said the deceased comprised four men, 28 women and ten children, including seven girls.
As soon as the report of the mishap was received, top railway officials rushed to the mishap site.
The injured were admitted to Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital, Kanhan for treatment, they said.
The front portion of the tractor-trolley got entangled into the engine by the impact of the collision, the sources said adding that the break van of South East Central Railway has been rushed to the spot.
The branch line to Ramtek was completely blocked due to the collision and the track was damaged to some extent, railway sources said.
