BJP to move HC against dismissal of Parrikar Govt Friday, February 4 2005 14:46 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) today (Feb 04, 2005) decided to move the Bombay High Court and take its NDA (National Democratic Allies) allies and other parties into confidence against the "unconstitutional and arbitrary" dismissal of its Government in Goa.
These decisions were taken at a meeting of party central office bearers and senior leaders, presided over by party president L K Advani, party sources said.
Ousted Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parikkar was also present at the meeting for some time.
The party also decided to take NDA allies as also leaders of other non-UPA (United Progressive Alliance) parties like Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav into confidence on the issue.
Today's meeting came a day after a BJP delegation, led by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and comprising 17 MLAs from Goa, called on President A P J Abdul Kalam seeking his intervention on the issue.
They demanded the recall of Goa Governor S C Jamir for sacking the Parrikar Government after it won a vote of confidence on the floor of the Legislative Assembly. They also demanded the reinstatement of the BJP Government in the State.
At today's meeting, the leaders emphasised on fighting the issue "politically" and cornering the Congress-led UPA Government both within and outside Parliament.
The leaders are also understood to have discussed the possibility of launching a country-wide agitation on the issue, the sources added.
