Friday, February 4 2005 16:47 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Chennai: Madras High Court today (Feb 4, 2005) reserved orders on the bail petition filed by Kanchi junior Seer Vijayendra Saraswathi in the Sankararaman murder case.

Justice M Thanikachalam reserved orders on the petition after hearing arguments by the junior Seer's counsel K S Dinakaran and Tamil Nadu Public Prosecutor K Duraisamy, who strongly opposed grant of bail.

Spotlight: Kanchi Jayendra Saraswathi's Arrest

Vijayendra Saraswathi, who was arrested on January 10, moved the High Court on February 1 after a sessions court rejected his bail plea in the case on January 27.

Chengalpattu Principal Sessions Judge G M Akbar Ali had dismissed the petition filed by Vijayendra Saraswathi, his brother Raghu and Mutt's former manager Sundaresa Iyer on the ground that no prima facie case existed for granting bail.

In his petition in the High Court, Vijayendra Saraswathi said the sessions judge had dismissed his bail plea without "properly appreciating the facts, circumstances and judgment" of the Supreme Court, which granted bail to Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi in the same case.
