College girl kidnapped at gunpoint in Kolkata
Friday, February 4 2005 19:54 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Kolkata: Close on the heels of a spate of abductions in neighbouring Bihar, a 21-year-old girl was today (Feb 4, 2005) kidnapped by a four-member gang at gunpoint when she was on her way to college from posh Salt Lake City area in Kolkata.

The kidnappers, armed with revolvers, blocked the car of Rama Jhawar, a businessman's daughter, with a Maruti van and whisked her away at gunpoint, the police said.

Police were tight-lipped on whether the kidnappers had demanded ransom for Jhawar.

Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee said that the police were inquiring into the kidnapping.

The police in neighbouring districts have also been alerted.

The abduction has caused considerable tension in Salt Lake City, a satellite township in Kolkata.
