I will not resign as House has elected me: Speaker Saturday, February 5 2005 19:04 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Panaji:
Goa Assembly Speaker B Satarkar today (Feb 5, 2005) rejected demands for his resignation and attacked Governor S C Jamir saying, he had "no right to interfere in my business and has no right to interfere in the business of the Assembly."
"The question doesn't arise. I will not resign. As the House had elected me unanimously, it is upto the House to decide whether they have faith in me or not," he said rejecting Congress demand for his resignation.
To a question that he had behaved like a BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) MLA rather than Speaker, he told Aaj Tak, "Definitely, I am an elected MLA of BJP, but when I took the seat of Speaker in the Assembly, I never went to any party meeting. The House had elected me unanimously and if anybody wants to remove me then they should go to the floor of the house to do so."
Hitting out at the Governor, the Speaker said, "He has nothing to do with the business in the Assembly. Goa Legislative Assembly is a different entity. Governor of Goa is a different entity. Both are constitutional authorities and Governor has no right to interfere in my business."
