Judges view 'Black Friday' film on 1993 bomb blast Saturday, February 5 2005 20:52 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
Two judges of the Bombay High Court, who had stalled the release of Hindi film "Black Friday", based on the story of 1993 Bombay bomb blasts, today (Feb 5, 2005) viewed the film at a special screening at the posh Eros theatre in South Mumbai.
The movie was viewed by Justice Hemant Gokhale and Justice S C Dharmadhikari, Director Anurag Kashyap, lawyers P A Sebastian and Mihir Desai.
Two days earlier, the judges had asked the Central Government and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to file their replies on a petition filed by a serial blast accused against the release of movie. The matter would be heard on February 10.
The Bench also asked CBFC whether it would reconsider its decision on the clearance given to the film.
The petition was filed by an accused in the March 12, 1993 serial blast case Moostafa Moosa Tarani who protested against the release of the movie saying that the trial in the case, on which the film is based, is yet to conclude.
Counsel for filmmakers Mid-Day Multi Media told court that the film is only a narration of the incident and is not an opinion on the guilt of the accused.
The petitioner's counsel P A Sebastian, however, contended that the film makers had spent crores of rupees on the advertisement of the movie where it was propagated as a "true story of the bomb blasts" and added that it would make an immediate impression on the minds of the viewers.
