Twenty-one year old Rama Jhawar, who was kidnapped yesterday from posh Salt Lake area in Kolkata, returned early today (Feb 5, 2005), police sources said.
Jhawar, the daughter of a businessman, was kidnapped yesterday by a four-member gang at gunpoint when she was on way to college.
Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee earlier said that the police were inquiring into the incident.
The abduction had caused considerable tension in Salt Lake City, a satellite township in Kolkata.
The DIG, CID Rajiv Kumar said the girl was handed over to her family this morning.
The girl was found at around 23:00 hrs (IST) and handed over to her family at 05:00 hrs this morning, he said.
To a question Kumar said no ransom was paid for the release.
Family members of the girl, who is in a state of shock, also denied that any ransom was paid.
