Allahabad:
Samajwadi Party MP Atiq Ahmed today (Feb 5, 2005) surrendered before a local court in Allahabad in connection with BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party) MLA Raju Pal murder case.
Atiq surrendered before the Chief Judicial Magistrate M A Abbasi and was remanded to 14 days' judicial custody.
He has been lodged in Naini central jail near Allahabad where his brother Ashraf has already been kept on judicial remand, in connection with the same case.
Both the brothers have been named in the FIR lodged by Pal's wife Puja.
While Ashraf was arrested from Lucknow on January 27, police authorities in Allahabad had been maintaining that they would act against Atiq only after they got some evidence.
Pal had defeated Ashraf in October by-polls for Allahabad West Assembly seat.
Police have also arrested two persons who allegedly shot at Pal.
