Three killed in avalanche in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla: Three members of a family were killed in an avalanche at Shakoli village in Lahaul district of Himachal Pradesh today (Feb 7, 2005).

The three were struck by the avalanche while they were crossing the snow-clad Urhi Nallah in Udaipur area, official sources said.

The deceased were identified as Uttam Singh, his sister Namdasi and her daughter Devdasi. The bodies of victims have not yet been found.

The authorities had issued a warning as avalanche threat loomed large over high altitude tribal areas since yesterday (Feb 6, 2005) following heavy snowfall and people had been advised to restrict outdoor movement.
