'Disaster Mgmt Authority to be up in 1-2 weeks'
Monday, February 7 2005 13:39 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Dehra Dun: A Disaster Management Authority would become functional at the central level within one to two weeks to look into policy-making and funding besides framing rules to be adopted by different States, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil said yesterday (Feb 06, 2005).

"Similar Disaster Management Authorities would be set up at the State as well as district level for better co-ordination," he told reporters when asked about steps to tackle effects of natural calamities like Tsunami.

Patil said that a disaster management law would be framed soon but declined to give out its salient features.
