Two arrested in Mumbai for firing at city police Monday, February 7 2005 14:41 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

The anti-terrorist squad (ATS) of the city police have arrested two suspected arms dealers, who opened fire at ATS team chasing them in a car at Rawli camp in Antop hill area of Central Mumbai, police said today (Feb 07, 2005).
Three accomplices of the two arrested, however, escaped on foot under the cover of darkness. The ATS team found unlicensed weapons from the car of the suspects.
ATS officials said that two policemen suffered minor injuries and some pedestrians also were injured as the car, in which the accused were driving, ran over them last night.
The two suspected arms dealers have been identified as Manoj Bansilal Kori, who was driving the car and Raju Jagdish Tala, police said adding that they have recovered a foreign made gun and a country made revolver from the duo.
Police said that the ATS officials were acting on a tip-off that some arms dealers would come in the area, a trap was laid, police said. When the accused came in a car, police tried to intercept them, but the accused opened fire, which was retaliated by the police.
Kori was arrested on the spot while four others had escaped. However, later police were informed that Tala, who was injured in the incident, was admitted to a hospital. He was also arrested.
A case of attempt to murder has been registered at the Antop Hill police station.
