New Delhi:
President A P J Abdul Kalam, who had suffered a fracture in the right shoulder, today (Feb 07, 2005) underwent a "different" orthopaedic treatment and not surgery at the Army Research and Refferal Hospital in New Delhi this morning.
"The doctors treating him preferred a different kind of orthopaedic treatment to surgery," official sources said.
The President underwent the treatment at around 10:00 hrs (IST), they said.
Army Chief General J J Singh called upon Kalam and wished him a speedy recovery.
The President was very cheerful and interacted with the staff and the doctors, the sources said.
Seventy-four-year-old Kalam had slipped during a walk near the Herbal Gardens in the Rashtrapati Bhavan complex and sustained a fracture in his right shoulder yesterday (Feb 06, 2005).
An X-Ray was done on his shoulder in the Rashtrapati Bhavan complex and the President's personal doctor Manik Tala confirmed a minor fracture.
As a result of Kalam's injury, the Governor's conference he was to open tomorrow (Feb 08, 2005) at Rashtrapati Bhavan has been postponed as the President would rest for a few days.
