Repoll in 658 booths in Gaya, Jehanabad, Bhojpur and Nawada districts, which went to poll in the first phase of the Assembly election in Bihar on Feb 3, passed off peacefully today (Feb 7, 2005) with an estimated 52 per cent voter turnout.
No untoward incident was reported from anywhere during the repoll, official sources said. Elaborate security arrangements were made in the districts where Naxalites are active.
The Election Commission (EC) had ordered the repoll after complaints of large-scale electoral irregularities and violence reported during Thursday's balloting.
Repolling was held at 84 booths in Belaganj, 69 in Konch, 48 in Gaya (Mufassil), 3 in Gaya (town), 8 in Imamganj, 28 in Gurua, 11 in Bodh Gaya, 18 in Narachati, 17 in Fatehpur and 41 in Atri Assembly constituencies in Gaya district.
Repoll was also conducted in 24 booths in Nawada, 19 in Rajauli, 22 in Govindpur, 20 in Warisaliganj, 21 in Hisua constituencies in Nawada district.
Repolling also held in 41 in Makhdhumpur, 43 in Jehanabad 57 in Ghosi in Jehanabad district besides 16 in Sandesh, 11 in Barhara, 14 in Ara, 10 in Shahpur, 5 in Jagdishpur, 23 in Piro and 5 in Sahar constituencies in Bhojpur district.
