Seer case: Key accused withdraws bail application

Kancheepuram: Appu alias Krishnaswami, a key accused in the Sankararaman murder case, today (Feb 7, 2005) withdrew his bail petition.

On Saturday (Feb 5, 2005), Appu had been detained under the Goondas Act, which is normally invoked against habitual offenders. Those detained under the Act are not entitled for bail for one year.

Appu, charged with organising the September 3 murder of Sankararaman, surrendered before Tamil Nadu police in Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh on December 19. He has been listed as Accused No 5 in the chargesheet. His bail petition had been posted for today.

The bail petitions of 'Dil' Pandian, Sathish and Arumugam, accused in the murder case and also detained under the Goondas Act, which were to be heard today, were posted for tomorrow (Feb 8, 2005) by the Chengalpattu Sessions court.

The bail applications of Arun, Devraj and Silverstar alias Stalin, other co-accused in the case, is also likely to be taken up tomorrow.

Meanwhile, two of the four personnel of the TVS group, who were granted anticipatory bail by the Madras High Court on January 28, today appeared before a magistrate here and executed personal bonds as per the anticipatory bail conditions.

The two, Muthukrishnan, a security officer of the TVS group and Ranganath, the public relations officer, appeared before the Judicial First Class Magistrate-II V Damodharan and executed the bond.

Two others, Selvan and Seshadri, however, did not appear. The Madras High Court had granted anticipatory bail to four personnel of the TVS Group, who apprehended arrest in connection with the August third last assault of a temple priest Thirukottiyur Madhavan.
