HC asks RDO to finish probe into Veerappan's death Monday, February 7 2005 20:37 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Chennai:
Giving Dharmapuri Revenue Division Officer one month to complete the inquiry into the killing of forest brigand Veerappan on October 18, the Madras High Court today (Feb 7, 2005) told the Tamil Nadu police to take on file the complaint given by Veerappan's widow Muthulakshmi alleging that her husband was done away by the police.
Issuing the orders on a petition filed by Muthulakshmi seeking a CBI probe into the slaying of her husband, Justice K P Sivasubramanian agreed with the argument put forward by senior advocate K T S Tulsi, appearing on behalf of the prosecution, that while a RDO probe was underway, further investigation could not be held.
Informing the court that the RDO probe would be completed in the next two weeks, Tulsi also cited a Supreme Court ruling, which said that there could not be two FIRs on the same subject matter.
According to the police, the outlaw and three of his gang were shot dead when they refused to surrender after being surrounded and tried to escape.
