Kanchi case: Bail plea of Silverstar dismissed Tuesday, February 8 2005 17:18 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Kancheepuram:
A Chengalpattu court today (Feb 8, 2005) dismissed the bail plea of Silverstar alias Stalin who was booked under Goondas Act earlier in the day in connection with the Sankararaman murder case.
However, the judge Akbar Ali of the Session court posted for Feb 10 the hearing on the bail pleas of Satish, 'Dil' Pandian and Arumugham. The hearing on the bail pleas of Sekar and Devaraj was posted for Feb16.
Except Sekar and Devaraja, others have been placed under Goondas Act.
The summons would be served to Arumugam and Senthilkumar, who are on bail, to appear before the court to receive copies of the chargesheet which was filed on Jan 21. The Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi, who is accused number one in the case, was issued the summons at Kalavai near Kancheepuram today.
Meanwhile, defence lawyers today said making 25 copies of the chargesheets each running into about 1800 pages was a difficult job for the Judicial Magistrate court-I. Usually the permission of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Chengalpattu was sought for preparing the copies at the Chengalpattu court, which had more facilities.
"May be the prosecution was empowered to make its own arrangements, which is unusual, and of this also, we have not been taken into confidence", A Shanmugham, defence lawyer said.
"We have every justification to fear that proper verification would not have been accomplished and the defence would be led into difficulties during trial, because of mistakes and interpolations in the copes," the lawyer told reporters.
The prosecution lawyer Thyagarajan told reporters that the issue of distributing copies straight away to all the accused on Feb 10 has not been resolved yet.
