Officials take over Parveen Babi's childhood house
Wednesday, February 9 2005 11:13 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Ahmedabad: The district administration at Junagadh in Gujarat has taken over the two-storied house, where actress Parveen Babi lived during her childhood.

"The two-storied house in Diwan chowk neither belonged to Babi nor her relatives. It is the property of Road and Buildings Department and was given to her father as accommodation many years ago," Junagadh District Collector R K Pathak said in Ahmedabad.

The house was given to Babi's father Vali Mohammed Khan Babi, who was an administrator with the then ruler. The family lived on the first floor while the servants lived on the ground floor.

"The first floor has been sealed and occupants of the ground floor have been served notices to vacate the premises at the earliest," Pathak said.

"The premises was rented to Vali Mohammed Khan Babi for Rs 40 per month and they have not paid the amount for several years now. As the property belongs to the administration, it was our duty to seal it fearing any sort of misuse," he said.

Babi, one of the most successful and glamorous actresses of seventies and eighties, was found dead at her flat in Mumbai on January 22 after leading the latter half of her life away from limelight due to nervous breakdown.

Some of her cousins and relatives from Junagadh were among the first to reach Mumbai after her death and had also proved their credibility before claiming her body and putting it to rest.

The suburban Juhu flat in Mumbai of Babi has been sealed, as there are no claimants.
