Patna:
Dreaded gangster Vicky Thakur, prime accused in the kidnapping of DPS student Kislay, which had sparked off public outrage, was killed in an encounter with police in Patna, a senior police official said today (Feb 09, 2005).
Following a tip off, a police team headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Secretariat) Arshad Zaman and his Danapaur counterpart Dilnawaz Ahmed cordoned an area near Dumura outpost in Shastrinagar area in the State capital late last night (Feb 08, 2005) and asked Vicky and his other accomplices, who were hiding there, to surrender, Senior Superintendent of Police Nayyar Hasnaim Khan said.
The criminals fired indiscriminately at the police party and in the ensuing encounter Vicky Thakur alias Pappu Thakur was killed on the spot. The other members of the gang, however, escaped under the cover of darkness.
One pistol, a revolver and several rounds of ammunition were recovered from the slain criminal, Khan said.
Vicky Thakur is the right hand man of Chunnu Thakur, kingpin of the gang involved in Kislay kidnapping case.
Kislay Komal, a VII class DPS student, was abducted while he was on his way to board his school bus in Patel Nagar area on January 19. The incident sparked off public outcry against the spurt in abduction of school children in Bihar.
A significant breakthrough in the case came with the arrest of three members of Chunnu Thakur gang in New Delhi on Monday night (Feb 07, 2005).
Kislay was recovered on February 2, a day before the first phase of Assembly polls in Bihar.
