Roshan fails to identify accused in attack case Wednesday, February 9 2005 17:46 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, who was shot at by two Abu Salem gangsters five years back, today (Feb 9, 2005) failed to identify the accused in the trial court.
Deposing before a magistrate, Roshan however supported the prosecution's case saying he was attacked by Abu Salem's alleged henchmen after he refused to pay them extortion money.
Roshan, however, told the court that he was unable to identify the accused as five years had lapsed after the shootout.
Roshan was shot at by the gunmen at point blank range on January 21, 2000 when he was leaving office for residence.
He was rushed to Nanavati hospital in Mumbai where he was operated upon and a bullet was removed from his chest.
The trial was held in-camera. Police have arrested five accused owing allegiance to Abu Salem gang. Of them, two had attacked Roshan while the rest had participated in the conspiracy to kill the filmmaker.
Tight security was maintained in and around the court when Roshan appeared as witness along with his lawyer Deepesh Mehta.
