Congress condemns murderous assault on Geelani Thursday, February 10 2005 10:15 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Congress yesterday (Feb 9, 2005) said that the murderous assault on S A R Geelani, acquitted in the Parliament attack case, was a serious matter and needed to be probed.
Party spokesman Anand Sharma stated this to reporters when asked to comment on the demand of former Union Minister Ram Jethmalani that the CBI should probe the attack.
On the Nanavati Commission, which went into the 1984 riots in the capital submitting its report, Sharma said that the Commission had found as baseless charges by BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) and some others of the involvement of Congress as an organisation in the violence.
He said that other Commissions and courts, which went into the issue, had also found the charge against the Congress baseless.
Sharma said that he would be able to react on the findings of the Nanavati Commission only after perusing its report.
