CBI case against four in smuggling & Gutkha case Thursday, February 10 2005 14:45 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
CBI has registered a case against four persons including Anees Ibrahim, brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, for alleged smuggling of machinery to Karachi and for extortion in the gutkha case.
The cases were registered against Zamurrduin Ansari, Rajesh Panchariya, Mohammad Farooq Mansurian and Anees Ibrahim under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Arms Act and Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), CBI said in New Delhi today (Feb 10, 2005).
While Ansari and Panchariya are in custody, Anees Ibrahim, whose brother was declared a global terrorist by the US, is believed to be in Pakistan and Mansurian in Dubai.
Ansari and Panchariya, who had named gutkha barons Rasiklal Dhariwal of the Manickchand group and Jagdish Joshi, owner of Goa Gutkha, had told the Mumbai police that they had taken the machinery to Karachi through a Gulf country.
The case was handed over to CBI from Mumbai police because of the investigation required in foreign countries.
Though Dhariwal and Joshi have not been named in the FIR, CBI sources said their names could be added at a later stage once the investigation in the case begins.
