Three foreign nationals, including a woman, have been sentenced to 10 years Rigorous Imprisonment after they were found guilty in a narcotic case, by a designated court, a senior official of the Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) said today (Feb 10, 2005).
The Principal special Judge dealing in narcotics offences, K Nazir Mohammed, yesterday also directed each of them to pay a fine of Rs one lakh and in default, undergo an additional one year RI, NCB Zonal Director Shankar Jiwal, said in a press release in Chennai.
On August 3, 2002, NCB officers seized over three kgs of heroin concealed in the false bottom of a suitcase.
In this connection Sellathurai Shanmugham, a Canadian citizen of Sri Lankan origin, Natasha Binti Shaharis, a Malaysian national and T Madhura Nayagam, a Sri Lankan were arrested, he said.
