India and Iran to agree on gas pipeline by June
Friday, February 11 2005 13:39 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: India and Iran hope to conclude the agreement for gas supplies through the $ 4.5 billion pipeline in June this year (2005).

"I am going to Tehran in June and hope this would act as a catalyst for concluding the agreement between India and Iran for sourcing gas through an on-line pipeline," Petroleum Minister Manishankar Aiyar told reporters after meeting the Iranian Ambassador in New Delhi.

Aiyar said that Iran would enter into two separate agreements with India and Pakistan.

"Our agreement with Iran would concern only with the delivery of gas at India's border," he said.

Through a separate agreement, Tehran would engage Islamabad in guaranteeing transit of the gas through 760 km of Pakistan territory.
