JK national highway reopens partially for traffic
Saturday, February 12 2005 09:54 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Jammu: With most of the road stretch cleared of snow and landslides, the 300-km Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was partially reopened to vehicular traffic last evening (Feb 11, 2005) after a five-day closure.

Light Motor Vehicles were allowed to move towards Kashmir valley form Banihal on the highway, police said.

Fifty-six vehicles were allowed to move and several others were in queue, DIG (Traffic) Niyaz Mehmood said.

Nearly 700 vehicles and 3000 passengers were still stranded on the highway.

The snow clearing operation was still on a war footing to make the highway road worthy for the two-way traffic, the DIG said.
