About a dozen buses were set ablaze and an unspecified number of other vehicles damaged as an angry mob upset over delay in bringing the bodies of six Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) personnel killed in a naxalite attack in Tumkur district went on a rampage in Bangalore yesterday (Feb 11, 2005).
Police said that angry relatives and friends of the slain KSRP men and others were agitated over delay in bringing the bodies and protested, leading to violence last evening near the KSRP quarters.
The angry mob went on the rampage stoning the vehicles parked on the road. Several people also suffered minor injuries in the violence, Police said.
In their first such major strike, nearly 110 naxalites had stormed a camp of KSRP men in a school building at Venkammanahali in Tumkur district and fired indiscriminately and hurled grenades, claiming the lives of six policemen and a civilian.
