EC notice to RJD for 'factual position' on CDs

Patna: Taking note of media reports and complaints by the chief Opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the Election Commission (EC) today (Feb 12, 2005) served a notice on the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) seeking to know the "factual position" about the display of the CDs containing footage of the post-Godhra riots in Gujarat.

Bihar chief electoral officer K C Saha issued the notice to the State president of RJD Abdul Bari Siddiqui today asking him to explain latest by 17:00 hrs (IST) on February 14 the "factual position" in the wake of the complaints, deputy chief electoral officer S H Mintoo said.

Mintoo said that Saha issued the notice on the Election Commission's directive.

He said that the RJD had been asked to explain whether the CDs were being used for "electoral publicity as also whether the party had obtained permission from the Commission for it".

The CDs showing post Godhra riots in Purnea and Kishanganj districts had sparked off a row with the NDA demanding stern action against the RJD.
