FIR against S Gurumurthy for 'misleading' police Saturday, February 12 2005 16:52 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Police in Kancheepuram today (Feb 12, 2005) filed a FIR against Swadeshi Jagran Manch leader and columnist , S Gurumurthy for "misleading" police during interrogation and attempting to "hamper" investigation in the Sankararaman murder case in which Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi is an accused.
According to the police, Kancheepuram Judicial Magistrate Uthamaraj, on a representation from Sakthivelu, investigating officer in the Sankararaman murder case, directed the police to file a case against Gurumurthy for not giving information to a public servant by a person legally bound to give it (sec 176), giving false information (sec 191) and punishment for giving false information (sec193).
The FIR was filed by Vishnu Kanchi police station DSP Mohanavelu.
Gurumurthy was interrogated by the SIT in Kancheepuram in December in connection with his articles appearing in an English Daily expressing his views on the case, its conduct and the course of investigation.
When contacted, police said Gurumurthy could not be traced.
