Iraq polls: Shiite list takes 48.1 per cent of votes

Baghdad: The main Shiite list won a decisive victory in last month's historic Iraqi election, sweeping 48.1 per cent of the votes cast, according to official figures released today (Feb 13, 2005) by the electoral commission.

The main Kurdish alliance came in second place in Iraq's historic election, with 25.7 per cent of the vote, well ahead of the list of interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi which took 13.8 per cent, the electoral commission announced.
