SC verdict of Pappu's shift from Beur Jail tomorrow Sunday, February 13 2005 11:09 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The Supreme Court will tomorrow (Feb 14, 2005) give its verdict on CBI's plea for shifting of RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) MP Pappu Yadav to a jail outside the State from Beur Central Jail at Patna, where he is lodged in judicial custody as an accused in the case pertaining to murder of CPM (Communist Party of India Marxist) leader Ajit Sarkar.
A Bench comprising Justice N Santosh Hegde and Justice S B Sinha would pronounce its verdict on the probe agency's plea made during an application filed by Kalyan Sarkar, brother of Ajit, seeking shifting of Yadav from Beur jail.
The CBI had suggested that Yadav be shifted to a jail in a southern State where video conferencing facility was available so that the trial of the six criminal cases pending against the accused could be carried out smoothly without bringing him before the trial courts.
However, Yadav's counsel had opposed the plea saying shifting him out of Bihar would be violative of his right to life as he would not be able to meet his wife and children.
He had suggested that if at all he was to be shifted out of Beur jail, then it should be to another jail in Bihar or Tihar Jail in Delhi.
The Court had repeatedly taken objection against the conduct of Yadav while in jail and had observed that he had not shown any respect to the repeated order of court and defied them to "roam around in Madhepura", by hosting dinner in the jail on his release on bail and using cellphones and entertaining large number of visitors while in custody.
