Laloo Prasad to table Godhra report on Feb 26
Monday, February 14 2005 15:34 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Saharsa: Railway Minister Laloo Prasad will table in Parliament the report of Justice U C Banerjee on the Godhra train blaze on February 26.

The report negates the conspiracy theory of the Sangh Parivar in the fire, which led to the riots, claiming over 1000 lives in Gujarat.

"The report of the committee headed by Justice U C Banerjee which probed the Godhra train blaze has come and I will table it in Parliament on February 26," Prasad said while addressing an election rally at Patel chowk on Sunday (Feb 13, 2005), the last date of campaigning for the second phase of poll.

Spotlight: Godhra-Chilling stories of the victims

Prasad accused the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) and other Sangh Parivar outfits of "being responsible for the post-Godhra incidents".

The report had sparked off a controversy with the Election Commission, warning political parties against "exploiting religion" for electoral purposes while the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) had taken serious exception to the timing of submission of the reports when the election process was set in motion for Assembly polls in Bihar, Jharkhand and Haryana.

Launching a frontal attack on the Congress for allegedly weakening the "unity of the secular forces", Prasad said, "The Congress is taking sides with the LJP (Lok Janshakti Party) whose secular credentials are doubtful."
