Naga leaders make a 'courtesy call' on L K Advani Monday, February 14 2005 13:34 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Two days before the resumption of their crucial dialogue with the Centre to find a political solution to the vexed Naga issue, NSCN-IM (National Socialist Council of Nagalim - Isak Muivah) chairman Isaac Chisi Swu and general secretary Th Muivah today (Feb 14, 2005) called on leader of Opposition and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president L K Advani.
"It was a courtesy call", an aide to Advani said after the 15-minute meeting between the Naga leaders and the former Deputy Prime Minister at the latter's Parliament House chamber in New Delhi.
Talks between the Centre and major Naga insurgent group NSCN-IM are scheduled to resume on February 16.
It was during the tenure of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government that the two leaders came to India in January 2003 after a gap of three decades to hold talks with the Centre.
The Naga leaders have been demanding unification of Naga-dominated areas in Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, a move opposed by these States.
This demand saw bloody clashes between Naga and Kuki tribes in 1990s and had triggered fresh round of unrest in Manipur three years back.
