Badrinath shrine to open in May after long winter Monday, February 14 2005 13:45 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Dehradun:
The holy Badrinath shrine situated in the foothills of Himalayas will reopen for pilgrimage on May 13 after a winter recess of about six months, sources said today (Feb 14, 2005).
The decision to open the portals of the famous temple, considered one of the four most important pilgrimage centres in North India, was taken by a religious committee, which met in Dehradun yesterday (Feb 13, 2005), temple sources said.
The shrine, situated at a height of 3,133 metres in Garhwal Himalayas, remains closed during winters as the whole area is covered in a thick blanket of snow making it impossible for devotees to reach there.
