'Cong paving way for BJP to come to power in UP' Tuesday, February 15 2005 17:52 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Dhanbad:
Samajwadi Party (SP) president and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today (Feb 15, 2005) alleged that Congress was paving the way for BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) to come to power in his State by weakening his Government.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi was trying to disturb his Government but development work and law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh was better than in other States, he told an election rally in Dhanbad.
He claimed that the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government would not have been installed at the Centre had not his party helped to reduce BJP's strength to just 10 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh. ''Only the SP stopped BJP from returning to power.''
All parties were perturbed over the increasing popularity of SP across the country, he said and promised if 'sufficient' number of MLAs were elected from the party to 'control' the Government in Jharkhand after the polls, the State would get electric supply from Uttar Pradesh and a minority university would be opened along the lines on the one in his State.
