Moderate intensity quake in Meghalaya-Assam region

Shillong: A moderate intensity earthquake having its magnitude 5.5 in the Richter scale took place at 16:45 hrs (IST) today (Feb 15, 2005), according to central seismological observatory in Shillong.

Its epicentre was located at 24.7 degree north latitude and 92.7 degree east longitude in lower Assam region, they said.

The quake was also felt at Silchar areas of Assam.

There was no immediate report of any casualty so far.

Today's tremor came close on the heels of an earthquake of slight intensity having its magnitude 3.8 in the Richter scale on February 11 last.
