Around 50-55 per cent voter turnout was recorded in Bihar and Jharkhand in the second phase of polling today (Feb 15, 2005).
The polling in both States, however, was marred by violence. In Bihar, 17 people, including two security personnel, were injured in violent incidents, while a Lok Janshakti Party candidate's house was attacked by some miscreants. Smashing of EVMs and group clashes were also reported from some constituencies.
A series of bombs exploded close to some polling booths near the main market area in Munger town injuring six persons, official sources said.
Six persons were injured in a clash between the supporters of two rival groups in Kasba constituency in Purnea district.
In Madhubani, anti-socials exploded bombs at a booth near Mominpur injuring three persons.
In Lohardaga in Jharkhand, naxalites opened fire on some Central Reserve Police Force jawans in a school, injuring one of them, sources said.
Helicopters patrolled the skies in naxal-hit areas of the two States.
The third and last phase of polling is scheduled for February 23 in both States. Counting of votes will take place on February 27. Votes polled in Haryana on February 3 in the first phase will also be counted on February 27.
