KYKL claims responsibility for ambush in Manipur Thursday, February 17 2005 13:58 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Militant outfit Kanglei Yawol Kann Lup (KYKL) today (Feb 17, 2005) owned responsibility for the ambush on Assam Rifles patrol party at Kumbi in which five personnel, including an officer was killed.
A caller who identified himself as a spokesman of KYKL said the attack was carried out by a special team of the outfit's 'special operation' and those who took part in it have returned to their 'tactical headquarters.'
Official sources said that unknown militants had attacked the patrol party at Kumbi area in Manipur's Bishenpur district, about 50 kms south of Imphal, yesterday (Feb 16, 2005) evening killing the five men.
An earlier report had said four personnel were killed in the ambush.
Reports from the district said several civilians had been rounded up after the ambush but were freed after they were found innocent.
