The Union Cabinet is likely to extend the term of Justice U C Banerjee Commission, whose interim report on Godhra train carnage negating Sangh Parivar's conspiracy theory had set off a political storm, by three months when it meets today (Feb 17, 2005).
The high level Commission was set up in September 2004 by the Railway Ministry to investigate into the causes of fire in the S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express that killed 59 kar sevaks in Feburary 2001 and has been given an extension on December 3, 2004.
The Commission's interim report had described the fire in the coach as accidental.
The Cabinet Committee in Economic Affairs is expected to consider allowing FDI in real estate starting from 25 acres against the current practise of allowing FDI in 100 acres applicable only integrated towns.
The Cabinet is also likely to clear the Home Ministry's proposal for setting up 10,000 hutments in the tsunami affected areas at an estimated cost of Rs 95 crore.
