Thursday, February 17 2005 18:00 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: CBI today (Feb 17, 2005) carried out raids against a suspended IAS officer of Haryana, Sanjeev Kumar, who had alleged largescale corruption in appointment of teachers, for allegedly possesing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income and having indulged in corrupt practices.

The raids were carried out at 16 places in the national capital after the CBI registered two cases against Kumar last night (Feb 16, 2005). The IAS officer had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court alleging large scale corruption in appointment of teachers in Haryana, CBI sources said.

Kumar had even alleged that the teachers scam in Haryana was being carried out at the behest of Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala.

CBI had registered five preliminary enquiries even before the Supreme Court handed over the probe of enquiring bunglings in appointment of teachers to the investing agency.

The CBI, which converted two of the pleas into regular case last night alleged that Kumar had allegedly indulged in corrupt practices himself being in the appointment of teachers and possessing assets disporportinat to his known sources of income.
