AIIMS has decided to discharge S A R Geelani today Thursday, February 17 2005 10:25 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
More than a week after the attack on Delhi University lecturer S A R Geelani, Delhi Police failed to make any headway in the high-profile case even as he was questioned for the third day yesterday (Feb 16, 2005).
Police have been making hectic efforts for the last two days to prepare a sketch of Geelani's attacker, which could provide some leads in the last Tuesday's (Feb 8, 2005) attack but have failed so far.
In this regard, Geelani, who was acquitted in the Parliament attack case, was quizzed for the third time, police sources said.
The victim has told police that he was fired at by a lone man outside his lawyer Nandita Haksar's residence in Vasant Enclave. He described his attacker as being of medium height and having wheatish complexion with trimmed hair, a wearing pant and shirt, unshaven and not wearing spectacles.
This information was found to be adequate by the police prompting them to ask some more questions about the appearance of the assailant.
Meanwhile, the doctors at All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) have decided to discharge Geelani today (Feb 17, 2005) as they feel his condition has improved sufficiently enough for him to be able to go home.
A two-member medical panel set up to determine the nature of Geelani's injuries is also expected to give its report today. It will help the investigators get some clues, as the type of weapon used in the attack would become clear.
Investigators also talked to Geelani's wife Arifa to "verify" several points that had come out during investigations, the sources said.
