Police soon to release sketch of Geelani's attacker Friday, February 18 2005 13:28 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
After questioning Delhi University lecturer S A R Geelani for the fourth day yesterday (Feb 17, 2005), Delhi Police were close to preparing a sketch of the man believed to have attacked him last week, even as it seized a jacket from his house.
A team of the Crime Branch, investigating the case, spent over an hour with Geelani at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to add the "finishing touches" to the portrait of the assailant.
Police sources said the sketch was almost complete and would be released soon to police stations and media.
Investigators also seized a jacket suspected to have been worn by Geelani on the day of attack from his Zakir Nagar house and questioned an associate of his to get clues, which could help crack the case.
Rona Wilson, a member of the All India Defence Committee for Syed Abdul Rehman Geelani, was questioned for about two hours by investigators.
He later told reporters that he had been asked whether he knew of any personal enmity that the lecturer may have had and about his friends and other associates.
Police, who are still awaiting the report of a two-member medical board set up to examine the nature of Geelani's wounds, have already questioned several of his colleagues and associates.
Geelani sustained several bullet injuries in the attack on him last Tuesday (Feb 8, 2005) outside the house of his lawyer Nandita Haksar in Vasant Enclave. He is likely to be discharged on Saturday (Feb 19, 2005).
