Haryana IAS officer moves SC against CBI raids Friday, February 18 2005 16:40 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Stung by the CBI raid allegedly unearthing huge disproportionate assets, suspended IAS officer Sanjeev Kumar today (Feb 18, 2005) complained to the Supreme Court that it was carried out by the agency to derail proceedings in his PIL on the teachers appointment scam in Haryana.
A Bench comprising Justice D M Dharmadhikari and Justice B N Srikrishna posted for Monday (Feb 21, 2005) his application, accusing CBI of "dishonesty" and for setting up of a Special Investigating Team (SIT) to go into the scam pertaining to the appointment of over 3000 JBT teachers by the Chautala Government.
Mentioning the application, counsel Kamini Jaiswal said the raid carried out at various places allegedly disclosing disproportionate assets of Sanjeev Kumar was nothing but an "exercise to harass an honest officer who exposed the corruption in the State Government".
The CBI yesterday (Feb 17, 2005) carried out raids at 16 places and
claimed to have unearthed disproportionate assets possessed by the IAS officer to the tune of Rs 80.33 lakh acquired by him in his own name and in the names of his family members.
Most of the assets were acquired during the period of April 1, 1998 to March 31, 2003. His total assets and expenditure during the period of five years were to the tune of Rs 60.41 lakh against an income of Rs 14.24 lakh, the CBI said and added that thereby, the IAS officer had acquired disproportionate assets to the tune of 46.17 lakh.
