Anara case: CJM issues notice to J&K crime branch Saturday, February 19 2005 16:04 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Jammu:
Taking up two "intervention applications" against the closure of the much-publicised Anara Gupta porn CD case for hearing, a local court today (Feb 19, 2005) issued notice to the Jammu and Kashmir crime branch to file their objection till March 5, the next date of hearing.
Chief Judical Magistrate (CJM) Sanjeev Gupta, after admitting two intervention applications filed by Shiv Sena activist Amit Chouhan and four suspended police officers against the closure of Anara case by J&K crime branch, issued notice to the crime branch to file its objections till March 5, 2005.
The CJM court said the case would be taken up on March 5, when objections by the crime branch would also be taken into consideration while deciding on the case.
The State crime branch had closed the Anara case and filed case closure report in the CJM's court for final verdict on February 12.
Against this, advocate Sheikh Shakeel had filed an intervention application (IA) on February 14 on behalf of Shiv Sena activist Amit Chouhan. It was followed by another IA by four suspended police officers through advocate Sunil Sethi on February 18.
In the IAs, they urged the court to direct the crime branch not to close the case and take the report of Chandigarh-based forensic science lab into account and investigate afresh.
In a u-turn, the State crime branch had yesterday registered a case against Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu, Kamal Saini, SP City, Prabhat Singh, SDPO Bakshi Nagar, Tanveer Geelani and SHO Canal Road Kiran Bala for wrongful confinement of Anara Gupta from October 23 to November 3, 2004 in women police cell, Jammu.
