Pappu Yadav shifted to high-security Tihar Jail Saturday, February 19 2005 12:59 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Rashtriya Janata Dal's (RJD) controversial Lok Sabha MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav was today (Feb 19, 2005) shifted to the high-security Tihar Jail following the Supreme Court's directive.
Yadav, who has been shifted from Patna's Beur Jail, was brought in the Rajdhani Express from the Bihar capital.
Arriving at New Delhi Railway Station this morning, Yadav was taken to Tihar in a police bus, where he will be lodged in judicial custody.
A huge crowd of onlookers and media persons had gathered at the Railway Station to catch a glimpse of the controversial MP from Madhepura in Bihar.
The Supreme Court had ordered that Yadav be shifted to Tihar in connection with the communist Party of India-Marxists (CPM) MLA Ajit Sarkar murder case.
Recounting the series of "illegal antics" of Yadav in defiance of the Apex court cancelling his bail and directing him to be lodged in jail, a Bench comprising Justice N Santosh Hegde and Justice S B Sinha had said a "clear cut case" was made out for shifting of Yadav from Beur to Tihar jail.
Ordering the shifting to be done within a week, the Bench had warned the officials involved in the transferring of the accused from Bihar to Tihar jail not to "extend any special privileges to him and to scrupulously follow the jail manual."
