36 killed, 100 missing in ferry accident in B'desh

Dhaka: At least 36 people were killed and over 100 others were missing when a ferry capsized after getting caught in a cyclone near the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka early today (Feb 20, 2005).

The ferry with over 150 passengers got caught in a cyclone in Buriganga river in Narayanganj district close to Dhaka, officials said.

Thirty-six bodies have been recovered so far by rescuers, the private NTV reported. Over a hundred people were missing.

Some passengers of the ferry, which was on its way to the river port town of Chandpur from Dhaka, swam to safety, the officials said.
