Monday, February 21 2005 11:32 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Rohtak (Haryana): Keeping up his attack on the Election Commission (EC), Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala yesterday (Feb 20, 2005) accused the poll watchdog of, "Trampling the Constitution" and brought media into the firing line charging it with "False exit poll projections".

Addressing party workers in Rohtak, Chautala targeted the media for projecting that his party was trailing in the State polls, which were held on February 3.

"The EC through its 'Illogical actions' had, 'Trampled the Indian Constitution'. The developmental activities in the State have come to a halt and the State has been deprived of Central funds in the name of Model Code of Conduct which has remained in force in the State for a long period," the Chief Minister said.

He asked the party workers to strengthen the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and urged them to get ready for the forthcoming Panchayat and Municipal elections, scheduled to be held shortly.

"Though the INLD will not contest the local bodies polls on its symbol, the party will endeavour to see honest and efficient people are elected to these institutions," Chautala assumed, adding it was necessary to elect hard working people with clean image to ensure proper utilisation of funds for undertaking developmental activities.
