Pak actress Meera fined for kissing in Hindi film!
Wednesday, February 23 2005 21:55 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Islamabad: Pakistani Government has imposed a heavy fine on actress Meera after she performed a kissing scene in Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt's new film 'Nazar' and is considering a ban on Pakistani actors from appearing in Indian movies, a media report said.

Meera is seen kissing her Indian co-star Ashmit Patel in Bhatt's new film 'Nazar', which has prompted the Government and the Ministry of Culture to impose a heavy fine on her, Pakistan's 'Online' news agency said.

"Meera's actions were against Islamic ethics and moral values," it quoted a spokesman of the Ministry of Information as saying.

The Government is also considering to impose a ban on Pakistani actors from acting in Indian films following protests over some "vulgar" scenes featuring Meera in Bhatt's film, the news agency reported.

Pakistani actors who go abroad are ambassadors of the country and are not allowed to spread vulgarity, the spokesman was quoted as saying.

Meera, a popular actress from Lahore, had earlier complained that she had received threatening phone calls from people claiming to represent religious groups in Pakistan, who protested her decision to act in Indian films.

She, however, is the first film actress to speak about such a problem as a number Pakistani film personalities have stepped up their association with Bollywood.

Several Indian film actors have also been visiting Pakistan in periodic intervals to interact with the local film industry.
