SC asks if Rajasthan police can protect Geelani Thursday, February 24 2005 12:21 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The Supreme Court today (Feb 24, 2005) asked the Delhi Police Commissioner to provide adequate security to S A R Geelani, who survived a murderous attack on him recently.
Taking into account the oft-repeated allegation by Geelani and his counsel that they don't have any faith in Delhi Police, the Court asked the Commissioner to examine whether personal security to Geelani could be provided by Rajasthan police personnel.
Geelani's counsel Nandita Haksar sought protection for him by Rajasthan police, which was guarding him when he was admitted at All India Institute if Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after the attack on him on February 8.
The Court said that nobody should do anything to hamper the probe into the case while keeping in abeyance Geelani's prayer for transferring the investigation in the case from Delhi police to CBI.
