Moved by the plight of lakhs of victims of Tsunami killer waves, the judges and staff of Bombay High Court and subordinate judiciary collected a whopping Rs 72.54 lakhs through voluntary contributions and deposited it in the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for Tsunami victims.
The Chief Justice of the High Court felt that in this hour of need, the judicial fraternity must rise to the occasion to help those who had suffered in this national calamity, a High Court release said.
Terming the response received from all Judges and staff of the High Court as "tremendous", it said "a sum of Rs 63.03 lakhs was collected in voluntary contribution from judicial fraternity and Rs 9.51 lakhs from institutions headed by judicial officers."
"On Monday, February 21, as a mark of our solidarity with fellow Indians, these contributions were deposited with Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for Tsunami victims," the release added.
